' You have forgotten yourself over the years, Susurratrix."His smile was cold and greasy," Oh, no. It is not I that will kill you. It is you that will kill yourself." Marcus roared, "What have you done, you stupid man?" "The gladiatorial games," I echoed, "You've sold me as a gladiator." ' Rome knows her as Susurratrix. The Whisperer. A deviant and criminal mastermind that deserves death for all of her nefarious crimes. She calls herself (Y/n); a woman once known by a very different name, but who is running from her troubled past and into the arms of a future more perilous and insidious than she could have imagined. A criminal mastermind, she controls a legion of bandits and cut-throats who bend to her every whim and hunt like wolves for the objects of her desire. That is until she is betrayed by someone who she trusts most and loses her freedom, not only becoming a slave, but being put on death row as a gladiator. This baits the attention of the new self-proclaimed Emperor of Rome, Commodus, who has resolved to pave the path of his rule with the blood of his murdered father as he struggles to gain the respect of his new-found subjects. He is only beginning to realise that the hole left by Marcus Aurelius' presence may prove damning to him. Maximus Decimus Meridius, a scorned ex-general, has lost everything. His wife and child murdered by the very men he once served to protect. When Rome beckons to him again, he must gain his revenge by first surviving the battles of the Colosseum. This is the story of how their stories are twined together in the Cosmic Loom and their fates are joined. Their struggle is not only about love, lust or revenge but by keeping to their moral codes. The lines between good and evil will be crossed and the path to Elysium might just be lost forever. . . His expression shifted, a storm of emotions flickering across his face. "Cassia... how long have you been planning this?" "Years," she admitted, her voice breaking. "Ever since Lydia passed, it's been harder and harder to stay. I love this village, I love everyone here-you most of all-but it feels like... like I'm suffocating." He stepped closer, his jaw tight. "So, that's it? You're just leaving? For how long?" She looked down, her fingers twisting the hem of her tunic. "I don't know. Maybe I'll come back, but not for a long time. I can't promise anything." Lucius's silence was louder than any words. She could see the hurt in his eyes, the way he clenched his fists as if trying to hold himself together. Finally, he spoke, his voice quieter than she'd ever heard it. "You don't want to leave, Cassia. Not really. You want to escape. There's a difference." "I know that," she snapped, her voice sharper than she intended. "But it doesn't change the fact that I need to go. I need to figure out who I am outside of this place." Lucius turned away, running a hand through his hair. "And what about us? What about everyone here who depends on you?" "I'm not abandoning anyone," she said, stepping closer. "Finn is stronger than he looks. Brutus and the others-this village is their home now, too. They'll protect it. And you... you don't need me, Lucius. You're strong enough without me." He turned back to her, his eyes blazing. "That's not the point, Cassia. It's not about needing you. It's about..." He trailed off, his voice catching.
