"Look out!" the rough voice of a passerby called out in a distance. I lifted my head up to see what he or she was talking about, however, it was difficult to see through the darkness of the night that had fallen over us. Perhaps this passerby was just drunk, which is quite normal for Durley, the only bar in town was usually open at this time. I wouldn't be- Suddenly I feel a force hit my body. The touch of cold metal ignited my skin into a heated stinging pain as I collapsed onto the hard concrete ground. My eyes are instantly shut and it becomes almost impossible to breathe. I hear shouts all around me and the slam of a car door. "Somebody call 9-1-1!" "She's still alive, but not for long..." "Keep fighting, sweetheart! It'll be okay." The sounds of sirens could be heard through my ears but I could barely pay attention to that; my heartbeat was slowly down and my breaths were ragged. Only one thought, one regret, one realization came into my mind as the darkness embraced my body. I had forgotten to look both ways. All Rights Reserved
