''Ooooh! You so totally like him--no, wait, you love him!" Cake smirks while poking me in the chest. "Don't deny it, Fi!"

I feel my cheeks heat up. "N-No, I don't. You're being ridiculous, Cake! It's Marshall! Besides, he's my best friend and we've known each other for years; it's just weird!"

Cake wags her finger at me. "You're a terrible liar, babycakes, you know that?" she hums. "You're not fooling anyone."

I feel my face flush even more.

Curse her and her ability to know me so well...

"You know, being in love isn't that bad; you should really learn to enjoy it," Cake says before smiling. "Oh, wait, it already seems like you are."

As Cake gives me her usual, triumphant I'm-always-right look, one thought is instantly racing through my head.

I'm caught, and there's obviously no going back from this moment. 

And I'm never, ever telling Marshall.

Fionna Mertens never expected to develop romantic feelings for her friend Marshall Lee Abadeer the Vampire King, and Marshall himself never expected to develop the same feelings for her. And Fionna knows for sure she never expected the events that were to follow, including the drama of her friends' own love lives, finding out her one-sided feelings might not be so one-sided, making amends with people she never thought she'd make amends with, and going up against forces she never thought she'd ever have to go up against. In other words, Fionna never expected all these problems. For awhile, problems had come familiar and easy, because they were problems a hero could solve.

But these aren't those problems, not anymore. Those problems are long gone now. 

So, because of these new problems, Fionna and her friends are once again dealing with their enemies, but this time finding they come with horrifying twists.
