When Jacob meets Connie all he wants is for them to be together. He knows Connie has a daughter who is 8 so wasn't as worried about Jessie but he didn't want to get rejected because of Jessie like he had so many times before. However, he knew Connie was different he could see it in her eyes, for once Jacob had hope.
