Price Of Light
"Please, stop," I begged, my voice cracking. Tears streamed down my face, my eyes swollen and burning. "I can't handle this anymore. Just stay away from me." His words, "Little Angel, don't say that. I'm here to love you," were like a cruel joke. Love? The word tasted like ash in my mouth. His actions screamed something entirely different. "Your sweet words won't change anything. I need you to keep your distance," I responded firmly, putting all my energy into my voice. My breath hitched. One minute we were arguing, the next...fire. Agony seared my throat. He shoved me onto the bed, my head hitting the pillows hard. Stunned, I begged silently, God, please, save me from this monster. His hands were on my throat again, squeezing, stealing my air. Blurred vision, his eyes bloodshot, furious. "How dare you?" he growled. "Consequences, baby." ************************************ He, steeped in darkness, she, bathed in light. There are worse things than death. ___ "What is wrong with you?" I seethed. She had my back against the wall, pinning me down so I couldn't move. She was much stronger than me, even when I used my strength to get out of her embrace. I held her gaze and I knew that she was gone. There wasn't an ounce of goodness left in her body. She laughed at my question. Of course, I knew what was wrong with her. But I have to find a way to get her back. "What is wrong with me? Ha, nothing sweetheart." she told me with a smile on her face. Because at the end of the day I'm still me, and you will never hurt me, will you?" I hated that she was right. I couldn't kill her. The kind that came from a lifetime of being told she was too little or too much, never enough, always less. She wore the jewelry like it was made for her... yet she still doubted she deserved it. "To be yours," she breathed. "Teach me how to be yours." For a moment, silence hung between them like a breath held too long. Then he moved-swiftly, fluidly-his body shifting with purpose. In the blink of an eye, he was seated on the edge of the bed, while she now stood before him again. The change was subtle, yet seismic. He hadn't touched her, but she felt it-the shift in gravity, the way the space around them thickened with unspoken expectation.
