A new rider, Carmaderon, has grown to the age of riderhood and is to get her own dragon. When traveling Riders come into the village for a quick rest, they begin to train Carmad and her dragon, Kelendros, but devastation strikes the village when an ancient enemy of both Dragons and Riders attacks Carmad's village. The group must strive to train, the new rider and her dragon before Faelir does too much damage to the social order of both Dragon and Rider.

Compared to how you're living now, the struggles these kids have to go through every day makes you think you're problems are lightweight. Each has to take part in these struggles and each has struggles of their own. Vann Vernard has suffered from the loss of his entire family for years, Nyro Slevon has suffered humiliation beyond repair, Tierra Devi lost her title of undefeated, Nico Amano and Carmen Princeton's friendship is threatened by lies and secrets and Stephanie Bryon has to suffer the unfairness that comes with her gift.
