He was self deprecating, and so caught up in his ego that nothing ever mattered to him. He never loved anyone because he didn't think anyone loved him, or was capable of doing so. She lived a decent life, in a decent home, in a decent city. She was happy with herself unlike he was. And she was his beacon of hope.
