Hiccup Haddock never fit in around Berk. The son of the chief, he was supposed to be a strong and fearless leader. The only friend he had was Ember, surrogate daughter of Gobber the Belch, whose talent for trouble was only equaled by Hiccup's talent for disaster. He never wanted to be a burden, but people have a way of looking down on those they think are weaker than them.

The others always knew what they were supposed to be, but he didn't have a clue. He wasn't good at anything, really, except screwing up. All he wanted was to be one of them, but until he'd done something worthwhile, that wasn't going to happen.

During a dragon attack, Hiccup shoots down a Night Fury - the most elusive and vicious dragon that ever terrorized Vikings. He believes his luck may have just taken a turn for the better. If he can be strong, like a real Viking, he could rise in their ranks and be the person his father so desperately wants him to be.

But when he finds the dragon, he finds a strength in himself that surprises him more than anyone else - and that's saying something.

But while Stoick and Valka are trying to live while mourning for their lost son, Hiccup is living freely on a Santuarial island created by an Alpha dragon with his best friend, a dragon, the one who stole him, Toothless. Toothless has always told Hiccup that vikings are cruel, horrible people that kill dragons for the fun of it, and that he should stay as far away from them. But when Hiccup gets caught on a hostile, viking-dwelling island, he doesn't know what to do. Viggo hated the child and took him only to get revenge on Stoick the Vast. He abused the boy, beating him almost to death multiple times, marking him with what he called ownership. Now, he's eighteen years old whose desperate to live his life. With so many people after him, his father forces Hiccup to stay on Berk until he finds a man whom he refuses to talk about. Hiccup begins to suffer from night terrors that make him want to stay along with battling his own mental condition. Things go south again when an unexpected traitor hands Hiccup over to the ones who want to destroy him mentally and physically. Many call him 'Night Rider', 'Dragon Tamer', and 'Mysterious Rider'. Many doubted that this hero could be their traitorous ex heir to the Berkian leadership. After all, he was described as having a prosthetic leg, very tall, confident, and extremely buffed, while Hiccup was the opposite of all these descriptions. Hiccup, the chiefs son, also the one that brought dragons and Vikings together isn't worried about the snow at all. He's usually the one to take advantage of the snowy weather, going dragon sledding with Astrid and the gang. But when Hiccup, mysteriously falls ill with an unknown sickness, Stoik's worries for his survival in the cold grow. In hopes to cure his only son Stoik sets out to sea to find the right medicine leaving Hiccup in the constant care of Gobber and Astrid. When tragic strikes, and Hiccup is now left on his own, his chances of surviving become small.
