Eminence

Arith is the eldest princess of the Hetrian kingdom, though she's never thought much about her status. She spends her days at the palace training grounds carousing with the knights or pestering her two younger sisters and acknowledges, distantly, that one day she will be queen. It isn't until her father uses her as a bartering chip in an alliance negotiation that she becomes all too aware of the reality of her position. Now engaged to the son of the head chieftain of Wanala, Arith finds herself forced to play the part of doting fiancée, a role she never envisioned for herself. With such differing cultures and all of their interactions occurring through the filter of an interpreter, Arith finds herself wishing for an escape. However, the decades-long war that necessitated this alliance is growing closer and closer to home, and it isn't long before Arith and her family are betrayed. With attempted coups and assassinations, she knows that for the good of her kingdom, she must see this marriage through. The only problem is that she finds herself continuously drawn to the man she considers her rival... who just so happens to be assigned as her personal guard.
