Set in Washington D.C during the current time, the two main characters Alex and Prudence are struggling with their feelings for each other and their need to be together. Prudence Romaine is in love with the newly elected senator, Alex Conrad. The only problem is she is seventeen years younger than he is and she has been in love with him since she was sixteen years old. That was the first time she saw him when he came to rescue her from her drug addicted mother and take her back to her grandmother. The plan falls through when Alex is shot and Prudence never knows if he lived or died until she sees him again seven years later. She works on his campaign and the sexual tension is very high each time they see each other. He can't get past the fact that she is no longer a little girl but a woman now. Alex keeps pushing her away until one night he can no longer hold back what he truly feels. Once they give in to their need for each other their past is brought up and an old girlfriend of Alex's could hurt his political career. Prudence has to decide if her love for Alex is strong enough to withstand the crisis and is he really the man she thought he was.
