Desperation. It's getting up each morning to look for your lost friend, even though at times you're too ill to stand. It's screaming at your friend each night because, despite the fact that her throat burns like lava, she needs to eat or she'll die. It's getting eaten by a monster because you couldn't drag your near-dead friends out of its way, but you couldn't bear to be alone.
