After suffering from his first true breakup, a man turns to a video game that his lover often played in an attempt to distract himself from his depression. Things go awry when he wakes up dazed, confused, and inside the game of Abaddon's Tools-- a dark place where the the light of the world is dying fast under a blanket of darkness.

(Aside: I'm not an author, nor am I really trying to be super-talented. I'm also not horribly familiar with writing in the first person. I simply wanted to mix together some themes and experiences from life with the love I have for MMORPGs and the whole trope of people finding themselves stuck in a video game. I'm making this up as I go, so I hope at least one person will enjoy the ride.)

I had trouble sleeping that night. I was conflicted. Why would someone be hunting in woods with no game? My mind was telling me not to go back. "Someone was out to get you, why would you go back? You're smarter than that. You were in a clearing; they clearly saw that you were a person and not an animal. Stupid. You're stupid," it said. My curiosity said otherwise. I planned on going back next week. I needed to convalesce for a while after my little excursion. I got up, took some sleeping medication, and drifted off to sleep. Phoenix wasn't meant to have magical abilities, and he most definitely shouldn't have been able to make all the money in the world disappear just by thinking about it. To make matters worse, it came with a minor side effect: a disease called Gold fever. In other words, people started to turn into gold. Over the course of a single day, Phoenix becomes the most hated person in the world. As the economy collapses around them, only three of his friends are willing to stay by his side. Their job is to keep Phoenix alive while he tries to make money reappear and find a cure to Gold fever. Which turns out to be more challenging than they thought, as they find out someone is tailing Phoenix with the intention to kill.Concluida
