After her mother's death, 17 y/o Deena Salée discovers a letter hidden under her bed that wasn't there before. Inside is an old photo of her mother in college with a man, revealed as her biological father- -the notorious hybrid Klaus Mikaelson. Her father's true nature, including her own and her family's is lightly explained but isn't of importance. Not when there's clear and bolded instructions to return to New Orleans in search of protection against a Great Danger.
An unknown danger that might've killed her mother.
Set on finding her family and any living relatives, Deena travels all the way from Le Havre, France to New Orleans, Louisiana with little knowledge of the supernatural world. A world kept hidden from her since birth. It's quickly discovered that not only is her family the original product of vampires, but some secrets lie within her blood where danger is found, making her the only of her kind- -a tribrid.
All while figuring out herself, making a life here in New Orleans with grief fresh on her heart, and getting to know the image of her father and his family people feared- -she now has to defend herself against a coven of witches seeking sacrifice upon a prophecy their ancestors created, a pack of wolves who'll never accept her, vampires who despise her, and humans who are just a reminder of who she'll never be.
