"I ready my finger on the trigger and pull. The shot sends shock waves through my body and I am slammed against the doors. His head slowly falls back on the chair. It is at this precise moment that everything inside of me breaks. All I can think of is my first kill. All I can think of is the guilt. The sharp pierce of the bullet landing crisply on his cold frail neck. My head pounds and the sound of silence throbs and screams inside my ears. It digs its hands violently into my head and shreds apart my senses. It destructs my mind, bit by bit, pulling apart every thought and every memory. Thousands of images flash through my mind. My mother, my father, Teddy, Jude. My conscience slowly falls into a hubbub of bright, white thoughts. I can't breathe. I can't remember. I can't think. I love you." Mara and Jude are living in a broken society, both fighting with their lives to put back the pieces of their world. A crime, an act of rebellion, has been committed in the government capital and authorities have scanned the eye print from cameras recording in the location of the crime. But when they do so, two people make an appearance. Mara and Jude. Brought together by the most unexpected of circumstances, the two help fight the broken and breaking civilization together. But through all of this we still don't know... Who really committed the crime?

As I leave, the cold British wind greets me. I zip up my sweater, and start walking home. Thanks to my parents, I don't have a car. "You're too irresponsible for a car, Courtney. You can always save up for one once you leave this house," my father had scoffed when I asked him. I walk at a fast pace, hoping to avoid any random strangers lurking in the dark streets. "Hey, darling. What are you doing all alone in the dark?" I hear a voice ask. I pick up his deep, British accent. I ignore him, and start jogging. Just a few more streets... I hear his swift feet, and he grabs me from behind, pressing a wet cloth on my face. He drags me behind a building. My muffled screams are the only noise in the silent night. I try to break from his strong, yet careful hold. I wiggle under his grip, but he only lets out a sigh. "Shhhhh...don't scream...everything will be alright...shhhh..." he whispers. I feel warm tears slide down my face, and my eyesight blurs, and I stop screaming and escaping. The last thing I see are the swaying trees. Then...
