"What I want?" His tone lifts, sharp and dangerous. "You want to know what I fucking want?" He takes a step closer, the floor squeaking under his sneakers, his breath uneven. "I want you out of my head," he spits, the words snapping like wire. "I want you out of my goddamn head, Eloise!" The words hit me like physical blows. "You think I don't know what you're doing? You think I don't see it?" he growls, pacing in front of me like a caged animal. "You've been in my head for weeks-weeks-and I can't fucking get you out! I close my eyes and you're there. I wake up and you're there. I'm trying to work, to take care of things, to live, and you're still fucking there!" ~~~~~~~ They aren't looking for love. Not when life already feels too heavy. One is learning how to live with the ache of what's been lost. The other is carrying more than anyone knows, holding the weight of responsibility on shoulders already built to bear it. But connection has a way of showing up when we least expect it. Because the thing about falling is...it doesn't wait for permission. And sometimes, the person we never planned on becomes exactly who we need.
