[ Book 2 in The Buddies Rule Series ]

Bree Hendly's life has only gotten more and more complicated since the start of her junior year of college. Now, with the sudden departures of her two best friends, she's starting to find that things aren't as easy as they once were.

With a new semester in a new city underway, Bree and Lewis must find a way to keep their heads held high; and what better way to move on from their past then to create a rule, one that prohibits any and all contact with those who have left them behind.

But just when things are beginning to work out for the two, word gets back to them about one deed that can't be undone, and one that will change the way they look at their two best friends forever.

Will the distance between these four best friends help ease the pain of losing one another? Or will the group be forced to come to terms with all that's happened since the start of this year?

We're not in love. Our past is a dumpster fire. The best we are is friends with benefits... without the friends' part. Jake Harrison, USC's star quarterback, goes through girls faster than jock straps. If that's not disgusting enough, he's my best friend's brother and my prime motivation for celibacy. Transferring to UCLA means finally getting out of my dad's house. All I want is to stay under the social radar, make Dad proud by earning my paralegal certification, and get out of Los Angeles. When Jake learns I'm nearby, the cocky jerk will stop at nothing to rekindle what didn't work before. He thinks he's grown and matured past the boy who crushed my teenage heart. I think he's taken too many tackles into the turf, but when he proposes a stress management agreement during his season... I can't help but see his point. His seven-and-a-half-inch point. The last time we indulged, we got sloppy. Not the good kind-soul-crushing feelings-sloppy. My brain knows cutting ties was for the best, but the rest of my body still hates me. But I won't be made a fool again. This time, I have rules: No attachment. No cuddles. And no falling in love. Yet, when treacherous feelings resurface, I do the worst thing possible-Break my own rules. This time, whoever falls first isn't getting back up. Story is complete. In the second book following "How it was Left" - By the summer before their junior year, Zooey proposes a promise that she and Lila won't let anything stop them from moving on from Borne to pave their own ways for themselves, even if those paths send them to separate places. But when Lila's boyfriend Michael dies tragically at the end of their senior year, those separate places the girls end up in leave Lila remaining in Borne while Zooey heads off for college in Chicago. Not only are the two separate from each other geographically, but through hidden secrets both have vowed to keep from each other about the terrible night of Michael's death. Five years later, Zooey has returned to Borne after finishing school, but unfortunately, experiences in her past 5 years of life have forced their way home with her. Not only that, but being back in such close proximity of Lila reminds her that she still carries a terrible secret about Michael she's sure Lila never knew about. Zooey's arrival back into town leaves Lila feeling much of the same. Riddled with guilt about the parts of her life she has kept secret from Zooey and others, she finds herself pushing away the only person she's truly been able to trust since Michael has been gone: Michael's brother, Hunter. ***CONTENT AND/OR TRIGGER WARNING: This series contains situations pertaining to violence, addiction, childhood trauma, sexual assault/rape, mental/emotional/physical abuse, and tragic accidents & loss of loved ones which may be upsetting for some readers.
