"Why do you hate me?" I whispered softly so he couldn't hear my voice tremble. I lifted my head to look at him and as I did my chest ached with sorrow. My hands trembled at my sides. He was staring down at his feet, refusing to make eye contact with me. More tears threatened to spill and I opened my mouth to say something. When I couldn't find the right words I shut it and swallowed the lump in my throat.

"I don't- I can't hate you" He exasperated. He lifted his head to look at me, and his glossy eyes met mine. "Then why are you letting me leave?" When I said that he ripped his eyes from my gaze and turned his head to the side to bite his lip in frustration. It was like looking at me brought him pain. I shouldn't have come here, I thought. I turned my body away from him to leave, but before I could even take one step...
