Olivia stared down into a half empty bottle, seeing a faint white light at the bottom. Through the amber liquid that held her a prisoner of her past, she could see the light like a beacon in the fog but had no inkling how to reach it. The dark brown glass held the secrets of her adolescence, the pain of a child left to walk in her fathers shadow; of a parent who fought his battles with addiction and a toxic love with his wife, leaving Olivia in a wake of unanswered questions, bruises that never seemed they would fade and a lust for never ending barley and hops on her tongue.

When she grows up, Olivia is living the perfect life with a husband, two beautiful children and a roof over her head that looks like something out of Better Homes and Gardens...but the glass shards of a broken bottle will still cut deep and make you bleed and she learns that predispositions leave her nearly powerless against the pull of craving and dependence. Unless she can manage to find her way to the bottom of her last empty bottle, she realizes the life she so desperately wanted in her adult life would turn out very much the same as that of her fathers...or worse.
