~The Gifted: Book 1 ~ Ember (REVISED) ~
--------
The monster inside me is growing.

It strengthens with every snapped neck and slit throat and charred body I leave in my wake. It feeds on every regret, every flash of guilt, every sweeping tide of sorrow. It feeds and feeds and feeds until there's no regret, no sorrow, no guilt left. That's the day I stop feeling. The day I forget that every body I add to the pile was a person, that they had a family, they had friends, they had a life before I took it all away. That's the day I've been running from this whole time. The day the monster consumes me. The day the monster becomes me.

I fear that day is drawing near. And I am terrified.
--------
Christina lives a hard life on the streets. With no family members, she steals in order to survive in a cruel world struggling to crawl out of the ashes of war. But Christina knows she isn't normal. Gifted with the ability to control fire, she is marked as a freak of nature; forever destined to be an outcast. And little does she know, everything is about to change.

One day, Christina is taken by strange black-clad people. She awakes in a cell, and she soon realizes that there is something larger going on. As she makes her way through brutal - not to mention deadly - tests, Christina discovers that she is not alone.

There are more like her.

In order to save her newfound friends, Christina will have to face daunting challenges and make impossible decisions, all while unearthing a terrible secret that threatens to destroy everything she knows.

A dystopian young adult novel involving romance, secret experiments on human subjects, and a group of teenagers' will to survive. Reader Comments: "I'm gonna gush about your book real quick...all the technology has a purpose and is beautifully explained so I can picture it in my mind...the whole concept of the book is completely original...*moment of silence for your beautiful arch of character development* everything your characters do is strictly them but they develop enough to show more about themselves without you straight up telling the reader about them" -Vairl9023 "Ahh!!! This is so good!! I will be anxiously awaiting the next Chapter!!" -CrystalBagot "Brilliant...ohh, this is very catchy, good work" -IndeeMaynard "I love this so far" -BrianneMorris "You've done a great job at creating a mysterious mood" -poisonedpen *** All Evita Creedy, 17, wants is to finish her degree and be accepted for a prestigious job with the city's Department of Energy. On the way to take her placement test she sees a man take a gun out of his bag. Panicked, she reaches into her purse for her phone to call 911. Instead she takes out a gun. She doesn't know where it came from or how it got there, but when the man turns his gun on her she shoots him. It would be easy for Evita to forget about where the gun came from and let her life return to normal, but its mysterious appearance won't stop nagging at her. When Evita starts asking questions Evelyn Sheer, the head of the city's Department of Energy, takes her captive and places her in a secret, underground research facility. Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem. Evita isn't ready to leave.
The Darkness in the Light by djscloud
25 parts Complete
For over a hundred years, humanity has lived in fear of the monsters that roam the streets, lurking in the drains below. Women and their daughters hide, protected in their homes, while men take their sons through the world, teaching them the responsibilities of having a family to feed and dangers to avoid. No one leaves the home unless it's essential, and most of the world prefers it that way. Until one girl spends her days perched on her window seat, looking down at the world below and dreaming of a different life. Her eyes are always drawn to the dark, ominous drains in the street, the ones that often blink open to swallow and person whole. One day, that person is her little brother, snatched right in front of her from their arms of their father and gone forever. When a person is snatched, they never return, and life goes on without them. But she can't accept that. Breaking all the rules, all the things she's ever known, she braves the world outside her little townhouse and goes on a mission into the darkness to find her brother. Only, it's soon her that becomes the one lost to the drains. To survive she must rediscover her world, and in the process, rediscover herself. She will be reunited with old friends, gain new ones, find out deeper secrets about her past than she ever could have imagined, and learn that the world is even more corrupt than she always thought. *** This story contains sexist ideology, mention of cheating, some gruesome scenes, and a whole lot of monsters and darkness. It isn't overly mature... there isn't much explicit language or sexual scenes, but there is a bit of violence, so just keep that in mind... and despite all that negativity, ENJOY!

"Three weeks. That's how long I got to have drama-free. I'm not sure what is happening to me or to Oakwood. Nothing's the same since I rolled into town and it just keeps getting weirder. Suspicious agents in suits roam the streets without an explanation. They're staring straight at me. The new Chemistry teacher is NOT who he says he is. I'm doing things I never thought I could. Like, mutant-level things... Lauren, Luc's dead twin sister, hid something from everyone. Something important that may have lead to her demise and that could lead to ours. Hunters are in town. I never knew four words could contain so much dread and terror. I'd rather deal with the Wanderers. I'm on the brink of a breakdown. I need help..." BOOK #2 IN THE SERIES! Ignorance is not bliss... In the wake of ridding Oakwood of Wanderers, other dangers come creeping in and they're somehow linked to Luc's absent twin. The past returns to haunt the mutants in inconspicuous ways. Riley's life is yet again in jeopardy, but this time she's not alone. Luc and his family are all thrown into the teetering balance. More secrets are uncovered. A trap dawns on them all. Invisible threats start crawling from all directions. Who is the real enemy? TW : behaviours of depression and PTSD are displayed. I don't name them, but one of the character will be struggling a lot. It may not be suitable for everybody. Other adult matters are briefly included, but nothing explicit or intense. Rewriting specifications : the main points of the story and end of the book will remain the same, am just going to change a few ways of getting there and adding some extra spice. Feel free to pause the read until the REWRITING sign disappears.

In a quiet town surrounded by lush mountains, Zariah "Zee" Torres and her close-knit group of friends embark on what should be a peaceful break from their chaotic school lives. A day of fun at the falls and a campfire at the top of a mountain turns into something they could never have imagined. When an explosion rips through the sky, the impact leaves them unconscious and sends shockwaves through their lives. When they awaken, they find themselves back in their rooms, seemingly unharmed. But something is wrong. An invisible force stirs inside them-powers that shouldn't exist. As they grapple with their new abilities, they discover they are far from ordinary. The explosion was no accident, and the world they once knew is about to change forever. As the girls try to understand their powers, they are drawn into a dangerous web of secrets, betrayal, and an ancient force that threatens not only their lives but the very fabric of their reality.
