He's hell bent on proving that he cares for no one but himself. She's hell bent on convincing him there are better ways to live. He thinks she's got to be joking. She's completely serious. ❀ Cas Parks is a high school senior recovering from a long battle with thoughts of and attempts at committing suicide. Since she was eleven, she's tried to kill herself eight times. The number of times she's thought of killing herself is innumerable. But each time she tried ending her life, something held her back. For that, she couldn't be more glad. Andrew Stevens left Nuevale High in his sophomore year and came back his senior year, more stony and cold than ever before. He's cast off all the people he once considered friends, but there's one girl he can't seem to shake, and that's Cas Parks. She thinks he needs to let more people in, and after spending an unwillingly large amount of time with her, he thinks she needs to shut some people out. And so it becomes a battle of wills to see which will crack first. Neither of them ever stopped to consider that they might just crack for each other.

Heather Haggler, a young but comely fifteen year old faces extreme difficulties shortly after the death of her father. Surprisingly a bubbly and always happy 'fun spirited blonde haired' girl, as she used to be, is now a trouble-witted teen, who faces peer pressure. Heather has been very crestfallen ever since her dad died, and she grieves with it by smoking or drinking just to feel like weight is lifted off of her shoulders. She starts hanging out with the wrong people, and is fonded by a no-good troublesome junior, Michael Wean. She faces a horrible time avoiding him, realizing that another guy, Brandon Zeleski, the opposite of her friends, is the one she's in love with. She's a loner at school, because her friends skip it and hang out by an auto store. But as the story unfolds, things only get worse for her. Her best friend is turning against her, and she's starting to recieve horrible nightmares that are connected with her life and the death of her dad. She starts believing that her nightmares give out answers to her dad's death and her future, and she starts to distrust people. And although this seems nearly impossible, and becomes a long journey, Heather is challenged by her school shrink to change and show her mom and little sister that she can turn into her old self again, that is, if she's willing to cooperate with getting help to change, in the blink of an eye.
