Amber Kings isn't normal. She isn't like other fifteen year old girls. She can't be. She's an ordinary girl on the inside. She's completely healthy.
It's just her face is too...shocking. Her parents have kept her sheltered from the world.. no, a more appropriate word would probably be imprisoned. They never let her see her own face. That is, until she was 13 and saw her own reflection for the first time.
Her father is ashamed of her and her mother blames herself for Amber's deformity. Finally when Amber is sixteen she begs to be sent to a special community for "people like her". And when she gets there she meets Jake. And she thinks she might just find what she thought would be impossible...true love.
