Atken- a boy who spends majority of his life convincing others that he is, in fact, a boy and not a girl, lives his life in his mountain with his loves. As a Dek with horns, wings and a tail, life among humans is not easy, especially when you have such a hidden pool of anger and rage as he does.
Cassie- a young Ake with dark skin and bright eyes is only trying to care for her and her orphaned brother. She lives a simple life, working in a tavern for food and a place to live.
Warner- a twin to a witch, he is apprenticed to a knight intent on wiping out all that is not human and 'pure'. He struggles daily with guilt and a hunger for power that he himself has not realized, even as he pushes it away.
Willow- twin to a soldier in training, Willow thirsts for more magic, quickly growing into a powerful witch. Living in an abusive home does not help her as she steals with her brother to survive.
Chat- merely an Askar trying to please his teacher, he shyly navigates through schooling and the finer points of humanities achievements such as the arts.
