Mermaids

Leena, the daughter of a half-selkie, has grown up in a world that has only just found its footing after the Great Collapse in the early twenty-first century. Around the same time as the collapse, a new threat to mankind emerged: aquatic creatures, half-man, half-fish, and with a thirst for human blood. A class fishing trip marks the first of many mermaid attacks, and the world once more becomes fearful and power-hungry.

Then Leena accidentally discovers a young mermaid, injured in the aftermath of a weapon testing, and she finds herself torn between loyalty to her race and the compassion she feels as a selkie to help all marine animals. Unbeknownst to her, her decision helps decide the fate of those around her in the upcoming war.
