The Beta Colony does not make mistakes. Everything is perfected, organized into neat rows, sorted and rounded to the thousandth decimal place. Everyone knows that Beta doesn’t make mistakes. Mistakes are a thing of the Praeterita: the time before Beta. Everything in the colony is altered to perfection without a single hint of a flaw. At least, almost everything. Imperfections are hidden from the people of Beta. They are thought to be the destructors of society by the only people who actually know of their existence: the Dux Ducis (the leaders of Beta). The Dux Ducis are present to keep the people in order, to avoid any of the rebellions and wars that happened in the Praeterita. But with almost everyone in the Colonies being Perfection the only people who need to be kept in line are the Imperfections. Justice is an Imperfection. She is an error, a mistake, an accident produced by the Beta Colonies. She had never even dreamed that there were people in Beta who weren’t perfected. That is, until she was stolen from her home by the Dux Ducis to be eliminated with other Imperfections. There seems to be no escaping her fate. Unless…
