Cassie Williams, jeune adolescente de 16 ans, n'a pas toujours porté ce nom de famille. À ses 6 ans, elle est retirée de la garde de ses parents car ceux-ci sont devenus fous, et est placée dans une famille d'accueil fantastique, qu'elle considère désormais comme sa véritable famille " biologique "... Celle-ci comporte Yannick et Samantha ( que l'on surnomme Sam ), les parents, ainsi que Théodore, le petit dernier. Sans oublier la plus chère à ses yeux, selon Cassie, sa sœur de cœur et meilleure amie de toujours : Abygail, appelée plus couramment, Abby. Les deux filles sont inséparables tellement elles s'entendent bien, et sont pratiquement tout le temps ensemble.
Leur vie paraît simple et paisible vue comme ça, mais tout va changer lorsque la petite famille va quitter San Francisco pour venir s'installer dans une petite maison de Chicago.
À première vue, Chicago est la ville de leurs rêves avec ses boutiques, sa joie et sa bonne humeur. Mais il ne s'agit juste que d'une façade...
Cassie et Abby vont le découvrir bien assez vite, lorsqu'elles vont faire la connaissance de la bande la plus populaire de dernière année de leur lycée. Cette dernière est composée de la pétillante Isobel, des intrépides jumeaux Justin et Ethen, du calme et reposé Connor, ainsi que du mystérieux Aaron, qui ne laissera pas l'une des sœurs Williams indifférente... Derrière ces allures de lycéens ordinaires et sympathiques ( pour la plupart ), leurs nouveaux amis cachent un lourd secret, très inquiétant...
P.S : Quand je mettrais le nom d'un personnage entre parenthèses dans le titre du chapitre ça veut dire que tout le chapitre se déroulera sous le point de vue de ce personnage. Et si je n'en mets aucun, ça veut soit dire que c'est un point de vue Omniscient( narrateur ), soit que le point de vue changera ( je l'indiquerais au début du chapitre ).
