Marcus wraps his arms around me tightly, and it feels so good to be in his warm embrace again. He places my chin in his hand and lifts my face so that he's looking directly into my eyes. His face is expressionless, but by now, I can see right through him, and he knows it. Surprisingly, I'm seeing something in his eyes that I've never seen before.
"What is it, Marcus?"
He leans his head down close enough to my ear, and I can feel his warm breath on my neck. "I love you, Korri," he whispers. "I'm in love with you."
A gasp escapes my lips due to his outburst. I can't believe he just said that to me. I try to pull away from him, but his grip tightens. "Why are you fighting it?" he asks with annoyance clear in his voice.
Tears are threatening to spill from my eyes. I bite down on my lip, trying to stop myself from saying what's on my mind, but I have to let it be known. "I can't...I can't-"
"You can't what?" he interrupts impatiently.
I lower my eyes to the ground, not having the guts to look at him when I say this because I don't want to see the effect my words will have on him. "I can't be loving a gangsta, Marcus!"
