This world is full of wings. The more loved you are, the larger your wings grow to be. It's a status symbol. The larger the wings, the more you get out of life.

Alexander's wings are huge and weighted. He gets what he wants. Life loves him.

Alexa's wings broke off years ago, the last feathers being torn off by the wind as it ripped the tears away from her cheeks while she rode on her motorcycle. She gets Alexander's scraps.

But when Alexander gets shot because of Alexa, the two realize, in the most delicately violent ways possible, all the ways in which one person could possibly need another.
