We left Rickie and his brother Tylor in transit between the Black Mountains and an unknown destination, wondering what adventures and challenges would await them this time in their quest to return home.
Surviving the terrifying ordeal of travel to another world, the brothers enter this new land amidst a hail of bullets - a portent of what's to come as their very survival is at stake, through the twists and turns of tragedy, betrayal, mystery and the unexpected.
But what of Samantha, their friend who was endlessly searching for them in their real world? The Black Amulet she was given before the previous owner died mysteriously has sent her to a different world as the brothers in her continuing search for them.
The three encounter Moles, Ghost Troopers, Zombies and other cryptic creatures from the murky darkness of evil. The brothers' story interweaves with Samantha's as she and her new comrades, Bradley, Elena and Logan, fight their way to the truth amidst bourbon-fuelled encounters with swarms of the undead and the grotesque Howlers.
As both the Black Amber and Black Amulet increase in strength, they mysteriously control the destiny of their respective caretakers, bringing the brothers and Samantha ever closer to the answers they all desperately seek ...

Both finding their own ways to survive in their new reality. Lara finds her place with another group of survivors, Annabelle makes her place in the woods with nothing but willpower and a friendly wolf. When rippers and their pet walkers come to the city looking for Annabelle, Lara finds out that her family is not dead. And that she is in grave danger. The cannibalistic rippers are not acting alone either. They under the order of a mysterious figure known only as 'The Master' and even the rippers, who keep the undead as pets, are afraid of him. Annabelle escaped from the master before, and not unscathed. The scars of her neck are the proof of that. She is no longer able to speak. With the rippers coming to town she knows it is time to move on. That camp just on the other side of the city is attacked by them. Annabelle's last act before hitting the road is to take out some of the rippers with her rifle. Memories from her past are coming back to haunt her.
