  'Mary' has been at the facility since she was 10, in the year 2362. Before that...well, she can't remember anything before that. And for six years she never questioned anything. Until she meets two people unexpectedly. After a severe relapse, 'Mary' finds comfort with Anna and Leah, two girls who have a perspective on the world that 'Mary' has never before seen.
  
  'Mary' is caught in a whirlwind of plans of escape, distrust and a strange new feeling she has never before felt. The people she once trusted, Jane and Michael, seem to be keeping things from her. Jane keeps her hidden from the world and the world hidden from her and Michael seems to hesitate with every word he says.
  
  'Mary' begins to refuse doing whatever Jane and Michael tell her to do. She begins to want to listen to Anna and Leah. Most importantly, she begins to listen to the girl with white hair that appears in her dreams and in her nightmares.

The imagery has been sealed into her generation's mind; some move on and live in fear; others- like her- watch a scene of spectacular storytelling, with their origins being their own imagination, unfold in front of them. Like many others, Jolin's mind is filled with charging into battle, guns blazing, and coming out on top with strategic maneuvers. The time for foolishly imagining herself bigger is over. She's just turned fifteen, and facing the real world and all its stained glory is what she must learn to do instead. Still, she daydreams, bringing the concept of war and her naive view back to the forefront of her mind. In her blissful ignorance, obstacles pop up, threatening to damage her forever.

I've tried so hard to be good. I've tried so hard to fit in. What have I done to deserve this? Lost in thought, I can't look where I'm going. My face connects with a human-feeling thing. "Emma?" Tyler asks and states. I look up into his cold eyes. "You?" I push past him, slamming my shoulder on his. Pain spikes through me, but all I can think about is getting out of here. There are black dots in my vision. I hear yells and calls after me, but they are faded. I burst through the first door I find. A mob of people await me, but they aren't about to arrest me. Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem. Evita isn't ready to leave.
