"Promise me you'll keep in touch" she said as she stared at the ground, unable to hold his gaze. "Of course I'll keep in touch, you mean everything to me" he said to her reassuringly, but a part of him still sensed doubt in her.
He lifted her head slowly with his hand till she was facing him, but still she refused to look him in the eye. "Look at me" he said to her in a whisper. She swallowed hard as she hesitantly looked at him, his gaze holding an intense stare. His heart broke a little as he saw her eyes flooding with eyes, on the brink of rolling down her face.
"I want you to do something for me" he said to her not looking away for a second, "wait for me" the tears finally rolled down her cheeks as those three words struck her like lightning and she couldn't hold it in anymore, she pulled him into a strong embrace as she nodded her head vigorously.
He held her face as they pulled away from their embrace taking in her simple beauty one last time, he wanted to feel her lips one last time. He inched towards her face slowly, he wanted to savour every moment he had with her.
It didn't matter to them that they were in public, it didn't matter that they were locking lips in the middle of the airport, it didn't matter that eyes were on them, all that mattered was that moment.

This story is dated in the late 1980's, where the only way for long distance communication was through letters, follow the Nigerian based story of Amara and Dayo, two youths whose love is put to the test when Dayo has to go abroad to further his education, leaving Amara behind.
