Levy doesn't think very highly of herself, all her life she had been told that he was too short, too chubby, too ugly. At a young age she slipped into depression, and now she cant seem to pull herself from the dark spiral downwards.
Gajeel is the schools "Bad boy" And while, yes he acts like a douche and makes rude jokes and skips class and beats the occasional kid up, but, when he sees kids bullying a short girl with blue hair who never seems to smile, he cant just sit there and watch.
