"What the hell happened to you?" I screamed, anger flowing through my veins as I tried to come up with a reason why he was acting so cruel. "You are so caught up with judging other people without ever stepping back and taking a look at yourself. I'm sick of taking your insults! I'm sick of letting you treat me like a punching bag."
"Then leave me alone!" He shouted back. He stormed up to me, only leaving an inch between our two bodies. His dark, emotionless eyes burned into my soul.
"I can't! I can't leave you alone! I wish I could but I can't."
In a rush, he threw me up against the wall and trapped me with both of his muscular arms. He leaned his face down toward me. I could hear his heavy pants as he stared right into my soul.
"Do you really want to know?" He breathed, venom laced within his velvety voice. "Do you really want to know why I'm like this? Because I don't think you're ready for it."
"Never underestimate me." I challenged.
His eyes turned even darker, anger lacing through them. "I tried to kill myself. I was selfish. I had dozens of pills in my hand and I was fully prepared to swallow them."
And that's the moment I realized that I've been wrong all along. I thought the Fates wanted me to be his therapist; to console him and to tell him everything's going to okay even when I knew that it wasn't. I thought they wanted me to listen to him without putting in my piece of mind. But that wasn't what the Fates wanted me to do at all. They didn't want me to help him by being his personal therapist. They wanted me to help him LIVE.
