In the midst of the reign of Queen Victoria, ruler of the British Empire in its entirety, peace traveled throughout the world, but success of an empire has never been able to deter the criminal population of any land. Crimes of burglary and assault along with heinous acts of rioting and protests followed the successes similar to that of a dark shadow. But of all the shadows that shrouded the provinces, only one held the grave consequences of the noose.

Detective Inspector Silas Jameson, one of the youngest detectives in Liverpool, is faced with one of the most difficult cases of his career. A respected professor killed in broad daylight by an unknown culprit is the talk of the city.
