The room was dusty, sat with his back towards me. And all I could think 'Where is my daughter. You stole her and I want her back!' A mother on a mission and a man on the larger side of life standing in my way, of the one thing I wanted. The light above the table seemed fitting, for this atmosphere. The air was musky and hard to breathe. Pulling the wooden chair out from under the table, making sure it made that screeching noise on the laminated floor. Watching him stiffen, as I slowly fell in to the chair. Just as slowly he turn around, his eyes widened in disbelief. Knowing that he was expecting to see someone else sitting in front of him. Folding my hands on the table to make no sudden movements, to set him off. I preferred not to die at this point not when I was so close to her.
"Habla usted Inglés?" A grunt was all I received, his dark brown eyes harden; his full lips drawing into a line. Nodding my head, before turning my attention to behind him at the little girl with curly honey brown hair staring at me with a smile on her face.
"Emmy, you stinker this is where you have been hiding?" I smiled at her, as she pointed at the man, stating. "Daddy." Smiling slightly at her, glancing around the room. Half expecting to see drugs, lining the brick walls.
"You speak Spanish?" He asked, which drew my attention back to him.
"Very little." Admitting glancing down at the wooden table. "She is my daughter."
"She looks like a Mexican. The eyes and the nose looks to be like ours." He looked confused, glancing between the two of us.
"Her father was from Jalisco." He stopped moving, for a moment he looked as if he stopped breathing.
"What did you say?" His voice was harsh, "What did he tell you about Jalisco?"
When the truth comes out, there's nowhere left to run.
