A true story of a child's adoption and the obstacles that were faced while growing up. Things aren't always what they seem from the outside looking in. Just because a child was adopted, doesn't mean that they're always safe. You will also see that the badge and uniform doesn't always mean that "they must've been adopted into a good family." This story is meant to empower and give voice to the people who need to speak up about sexual abuse. This story is about my own struggles of adoption, which has been a life long journey. I hope that you find courage in my story to not live in the dark, because you're afraid of what other's might see in the light. Closure doesn't always present itself in the way we wished it would. Sometimes, you have to buckle down and demand what's yours. This story, it's as close as I will ever get to closure, but the world deserves to know that there is strength in our weaknesses. If I can make it through all of this and still have some fight left in me....so can you.
I've prided myself on being this overly strong person, who has been a fighter since day one. The harsh reality of sexual abuse is that it's NOT something you can just keep inside and continue to feel strengthened that you made it through. It doesn't just sit in the back of your mind to never be thought about again. I could only wish that it would work that way. You can't drink it away and you can't ignore it. You have to face it. If you want to heal....YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT HEAD ON.
