"The rain blinded my eyes and my hair got in my face, sticking to it, as I watched Uncle fall to the ground. His eyes were wide and in mid-fall, he shifted from wolf to human again. I could see the pain in his eyes as the claw ripped out of the attacker wolf's paw and sticking inside Uncle Alpha. 'No!' I screamed, running towards him. Everything seemed to go into slow motion as I scrambled over to him and catched him, gently dropping him to the ground as I changed back to human. Aunt was there too, still in wolf form, and watched as her mate was bleeding out. She looked grief stricken and looked for the wolf who had done it. She instantly went off on him and they rolled around, biting each other. I went back to Uncle, knowing she could handle it. 'Charlotte,' Uncle said to me, grabbing my hand, which I had laid on his chest. He pulled me closer with little strength he had left and put his hand on my forehead. I knew what was coming and I couldn't help but a tear to streak down my face. 'My days are ending, now I know. I also know that you will be the Alpha that Willowlace Pack deserves. I also know that you, the daughter of your parent's pack, will also join together to packs to create the ultimate pack. Yes, you are a girl, but I believe you are a leader that my pack deserves, and when the time comes, you parent's pack too.' 'By all the strength and power I have in my rank of high honor,' he cut off, spitting out some blood and his words were dying out. He continued to talk, with a little blood dribbling down his chin. 'I know pronounce you Alpha of Willowlace Pack. I'm not pronouncing you husband and wife.' I smiled at his sense of humor and then I felt a convulsing pain go through me. I started to glow and Uncle did too, smiling. I stopped not soon after and Uncle died off gradually. But I knew when the light would dim that he would be dead. It just dimmed. The former Alpha just died. And I would take his place."

"Why can't you just go away, Ian!" I spat. "We don't need you!" "I think you do, Amber." Ian countered calmly, slowly circling the large table to get to me. "At least speak with your pack. I think some may welcome the change--" "We've done fine!" I moved to widen the distance between us. "It must pain you to know a female pack can thrive!" "I'm sure you've done fine on your own," Ian said softly. "but we are talking about growth, mates, expansion. I believe our packs uniting would be good for all." I gave a snort, looking away. "Good for you, you mean." "Good for you, too." His look held sensual promise as he began to move again. "I don't think so," I sneered as he came closer. His scent was beginning to affect me, so I began to back away. The sight of his large and muscular frame was frightening but held me in wonder, his dark eyes a little too discerning for my taste. But I wanted my freedom, and to unite with an alpha as good as took that away. "Go away, Ian. You're not wanted--" "Okay." "What?" "So, send me away." He said it simply. "I'm a male alpha, but you are female, so you can send me away." "I did!" "No, you didn't," he gave a small smile. "Every time you mention me leaving you look away." He began to move toward me. "I want you to stand still, look me in the eyes--" He pointed at his eyes for emphasis. "Right here, and tell me you want me to leave." I watched him slowly make small steps toward me. I brought my eyes to his and couldn't breathe. His scent permeated my senses, making me feel weak, but strengthening a bond that called for consummation. I didn't want this! Damn him! I shook my head, trying to get the words out, but instead felt tears come to my eyes. He cornered me, leaning down, and caressed my cheek. I bit back a sob, rooted to the spot. He rubbed my nose with his as his eyes glowed and his canines appeared. "Liar." he whispered.
