Sir Draken hated mercenaries. After all, everyone knew they were stupid sons-of-whores who thrived on the chaos of war and fought for anyone who had enough coin to pay them. Normally, he would behead anyone who even suggested he hire mercenaries to help defend his lands. But then, these were hardly ordinary circumstances. His father, Baron Draco's, bitter rival, Lord Lionel, had overrun their army and was taking whatever he pleased. With their forces nearly destroyed and Baron Draco's allies conveniently occupied with the Orcs, Draken has little choice but to get used to fighting alongside Northandic sell-swords..

Ulf Trollbane has little use for Amarian Nobles. Lazy, prejudiced idiots who are obsessed with a code that no one else uses and causes them to lose more battles than it's worth. He would rather not fight for them, but ever since his half-brother exiled him so he could be wed to ULF's treacherous wife-to-be, Ulf was fresh out of options. It hurt his pride as a Nothandic champion to serve the weaklings known as Amarians, but what else was a man to do? Until recently, he'd had relatively decent "clients" who treated him and his men with a measure of respect, but Draken Highwalker is the perfect example of Ulf's definition of an Amarian noblemen. Hopefully Ulf can avoid killing him until the job's done...

Whoever Fiáin was born to be died along with her twin brother. She died when a strange white wolf came into their territory and murdered her brother in front of her. All her life, Fiáin had lived with the guilt of having hidden rather than trying to defend her twin, and it didn't matter to her that she had only been a cub herself, or that the effort would've been futile. In her eyes, her brother's loss was her fault. But just as painful as that guilt was the fear that accompanied it; a fear so relentless that she'd never taken her place in her pack, and had settled into a position only one rung above omega. But her family think she's failing to step up, and her father believes that if he just pushes her hard enough, her inner wolf will push back. Cróga, on the other hand, had always known his place. He'd grieved for his younger brother too, but as his father's heir and the subject of an elven oracle's dire prophecy, he couldn't let fear hold him back. Whatever dreams or desires he might have had didn't matter, because one day he would be an alpha male, and a commander of both the Tírgarda and a naval fleet, duty-bound to guard the coast of Tírlaochra from invading forces. His own guilt weighed heavily on him too, because the oracle had forewarned that he could only take his place once his father lost his life, and Cróga wasn't ready to face that loss, or to face his own self-doubt. When the white wolf reappears, Fiáin isn't prepared for her father's decision to send her away, to be the mate of a wolf she barely knows. She's even less prepared for a journey in the company of Styrkr, a male from across the sea who wants to travel Tírlaochra before taking more responsibility in his own pack. None of that matters for long, though, because when the black ships appear from the fog that blankets the sea, war returns to a land that's known peace for centuries, and both Fiáin and Cróga will need to find their places, for the good of everyone.
Rise of Fire: Dragons Reborn [COMPLETED] by RosaleeRain
49 parts Complete Mature
The world had long since forgotten the age of dragons, those creatures that had once ruled the skies as gods had long since disappeared after the conclusion of the Great Demon Wars. Dragons became nothing more than a fading legend, a story to tell children at bedtime. But the gods could not let the dragons die, for they were the last defense against the demon armies and the dark god Vekkar. Talia had been born and raised in a world of darkness acting as an agent of Hephatus, goddess of assassins and death. She knew only a life of killing, sometimes for justice, sometimes for honor, always for money. Her morals were opaque at best. But when she's deployed to the city of Arboros she finds herself thrust into a world of political games, opposing powers, and constant threat. Nowhere was safe even for her. Her goals became muddied, and then lost altogether when she meets the Dwarven Prince. Bromyr had spent the last five years of his life chasing ghosts, desperate to find the lost dragon eggs. His people thought him crazy, his father stripped him of his titles, but he never gave up. Eventually his effort bore fruit and he hastily made way to return to his homeland only to get caught up in the city of Arboros. It was there that he met an intriguing half-giant, a woman who ignited a fire everywhere she went. In the end she was the one who inadvertently brought about the new age of dragons. What could go wrong when an ill tempered assassin becomes the first dragon rider of a new age? ***Cover made by annie1loves1you***

Crown Princess Leonore, heir to the queendom of Dranath, likes women, obviously. The Queen Mother Carmilla marries her off to Sir Gabriel, obviously. So when she finds out Sir Gabriel is a woman... Dranath; queendom of mystique, bordered by jealous allies. To the southwest, the states of Aurune. East is the coast and the maritime poleis of Raham. To the north, the Hierstag clans. Rich in land and crop and poor in everything else, the queendom is closed in from all fronts. And when the sword of years-long grudges is brought to bear, who will play it to the hilt? ------------------------------ i wanted to say that this book is my love letter to imperialism, but it's actually lovingly crafted hatemail non-anonymously submitted to imperialism's tumblr asks. this is an exploration of how much suffering one can propagate in order to achieve one's goal, and the degree in which your decisions can be justified (even only to yourself!) before you become, essentially, irredeemable; an exercise in Is It Worth It Though yeah there's magic(k) in this one. and a lot of geopolitics! might have gotten carried away with the geopolitics. come for the gay, stay for the political machinations. or come for the political machinations and stay for the gay, i dont mind. 3rd person pov, leonore-centric, no homophobia (at least, not the kind we usually see), i want to say butch/femme but honestly it's butch gabriel/whatever the hell leonore is. folk anti-hero narrative or villain origin story, you decide
