Decades after the dekulakization period in Soviet Russia, a young girl's parents are taken from her, forcing her to become self-sufficient during the cold and treacherous winters. Once she matures and years have gone by, with just a sliver of her sanity still attached to her, she decides to travel through rural Kazakhstan to find her once taken parents. On her way, she meets both dark enemies and warm friends of different cultures.
