When Nora Collins' father is badly injured in a car wreck and lapses into a coma state, she has no choice but to stay with her uncle in his secluded academy in the mountains. However, the reception is less than welcoming; her uncle, who she barely knows, is distant and wishes nothing to do with her, the students act far superior to her and virtually disappear at night, and the academy itself is nothing more than a creepy old castle in the woods. Perhaps the place's only saving grace is her assigned "guide," a mysterious man by the name of Alistair Reid.
