A coloboma can be defined as a defect in the tissue of the eye(s) where a certain tissue area is not present to form a structure of the eye. In shorter terms, a coloboma causes a gap in certain important parts of the eye including the retina, iris, and optic nerve. As a Greek word, it means "curtailed". This genetic disorder is unique in its own way when it's compared with other optical conditions.
