Kaneki passed away in the hospital from being hit in a car crash. his lover ayato kirishima wasn't injured but broke his leg only. after he wakes up and finds that kaneki isn't with him anymore he writes 25 letters to his dead lover about how life is going. soon one night ayato goes to a bar one night and drives drunk.
