A decade before Team RWBY stepped through the halls of Beacon, before Cinder plotted her ascent, before the Fall Maiden fell, Remnant faced a different, more common sort of problem: overpopulation. Driven by the need to expand, the headmasters of the four kingdom academies are sending more and more experienced hunters to search for a solution in secret. The leaders of the kingdoms place their hope for progress in an elaborate plan called Project GALE.

Celsius Terra is one of the few females in the male-dominated Beacon Academy. She lived with her family separated from the city, and her skill comes from talent and self-discipline. At Beacon, it seems she has the most to learn. Celsius is thrust into a team CRLN, a group of strong and sometimes conflicting personalities and shoved into the world of Beacon politics.

To make matters worse, as increasing numbers of hunters and huntresses disappear, Academy students are expected to pick up high-level missions and assignments. Team CRLN, as a first-year team, is exempt from many of these, until by a strange turn of events and Professor Ozpin's confusing logic, they are shoved into a mission that happens to be the very reason hunters are disappearing in the first place- Codename: Project GALE.
