Having run away from a past she'd rather forget, Rylie Klintson lands herself a job as the first female worker on the McGrange Ranch. While the foreman seems to have his own ideas about how she should be spending her nights, she is given a bunk house to share with Dune O' Brandy, a quiet yet hardworking man. Over time, Rylie finds herself drawn more and more to her bunkmate, especially when she is given a blue roan to ride that he trained himself.
But right out of the gate, it seems her past won't let go as she's plagued by dreams of attackers, murderers, and her helpless family and friends being killed before her eyes. The foreman's advances don't help any, each one bringing back more memories. Dune is the only one that can console her, and as the summer passes, they fight to control the nightmares, as well as staying out from under the foreman.

Chad Crawford has been running from the nightmares of an early dawn attack that occurred on his last deployment. He had no recollection of the day in question, but each nightmare brings back snippets that he would rather not remember. Having been in one place for too long, it's time to run again. As luck would have it, he is offered an unexpected job in Denver. He didn't expect that job to lead him to confronting his nightmares, let alone the nightmares of a beautiful exotic dancer. Anna Bishop has been an exotic dancer since she aged out of foster care. She has always enjoyed her job until recently. Now, she's afraid it's going to get her murdered. She had hoped a week in Oklahoma for her best friend's wedding would deter her unwanted admirer, but she was wrong. Now she has to decide between facing the problem head on or running away. Thanks to the cowboy her boss brought back from Oklahoma, she won't have to do either alone.
