Except for Liam and his family in Great Springs, Utah. Almost completely disconnected from technology, life goes on there. 

Arcane Growth uses sophisticated tech to bestow players real life skill, reflective of their avatar.

When Liam takes a vacation to another town and heard about the game, he blows a good portion of his college savings on a laptop and the add-ons necessary to play. He turns it on, creates an avatar, and begins an adventure.
