"Alex!" John grabbed my hand to stop me from walking off. I reluctantly turned around, then smiled at his goofy grin. He pulled me in close to him and looked into my eyes.
"You can't just run away like that," he said, teasingly.
The street lamp directly above us cast a golden glow, making John's eyes shimmer. The moon was barely visible from behind the clouds, and it was just cold enough for puffs of breath to be visible in the nights air.
It was perfect.
"Laurens, I like you a lot," I murmured as John pulled me in for another kiss.
We stood there for a while, kissing till our lips were numb. Then we walked back home, hand in hand.

He's gotten used to the near constant teasing, taunting and bullying for having to bring his service dog, Philip, everywhere. Alex has lived in the Caribbean all his life, and has just recently raised enough money to be able to go to America. He passed the entrance exam to King's College with such astounding scores that he got in full scholarship. Growing up in the Caribbean he'd never had the chance. Never until he'd moves to New York. Sure, he dreamed about seeing snow. But he never imagined that it was so cold.
