"Zachary Hunt, will you marry me?" I asked, watching him closely with my dark green eyes. "I-" He looked confused and most importantly, surprised. "Emma, we're so young I don't think it would be practical to-" I burst into laughter, interrupting his little ramble. "I'm KIDDING, Char. As if I'd marry YOU." Zach's eyes burned menacingly. "You-" "Yeah Yeah. Just wondering though, did you really think I was serious? I'm sixteen, I've got better things to do than date trash, much less marry." "Trash? Emma, what the fu-" "Char, don't swear." "Don't call me that." He snapped, annoyed now. "What? No, I like Char. You're just going to have to live with that." Zach sighed, rolling his eyes at me. "And for the record, Char?" I said turning and tossing my hair back for effect, "I'd never stoop as low as you." With a wink, I walked away quite proud of myself for making a certain Zachary Hunt annoyed. -*- Emma Winters prides herself in being a secret prankster behind the friendly face. She looks up at me, taking a step forward and smiling slightly, "How can I ever get hurt when I have you here to protect me?" "But you could have gotten hurt," I murmur softly, hanging my head and feeling my shoulders drop, the tension seeping from my body. "No. Stop," She cuts me off sternly but tenderly, "Don't talk like that, Reece. I'm okay, you're okay, we're okay," She speaks softly, reaching her hand up to gently brush her thumb over my cheek, just under the cut that's there. "We're okay," I repeat, taking a small step closer to her. She nods with a small smile, moving her hand down from my cheek and instead placing the palm of her hand on my chest, right over my heart. I know she can feel how fast my heart is beating. I just don't know why it's doing that. ~ Reece Carter is the bad boy of Northwood High. He smokes and he fights.
