Misterio
After his narrow escape from death at the Invasion of Lawrence, outlaw journalist Atticus Gainsborough was looking forward to a soft-touch assignment. Trivia Master, the king of youth trivia competitions, sure seemed like just the vacation he was looking for. But things are a little off on the trivia circuit. It's not the Chinese gangsters who think that Atticus knows what happened to their largest client, or the serial killer who's been offing reporters and is ready to strike again. The problem is with the kids - brilliant, disturbed, and ruthless. When one of them turns up dead, it looks like the competition is a lot more cutthroat than anyone imagined. And just when Atticus is ready to run, a terrorism scare seals off the building, locking him in with a horde of overachieving psychopaths...and the only way out is to find a weapon of mass destruction tucked away somewhere in the building. It's hard out there for a journalist these days.

COMPLETED "He pointed his gun at my head and yelled "You really want to pick a fight with me? Huh? That little wretch, what was his name? The Australian kid, only got a shot in the shoulder. This time, I won't miss." My heart was pounding in my ears as the barrel of a gun was pointed between my eyes." Many of you have probably experienced a lockdown drill. Few of you may have been in the real thing. Whether it be because a parent forgot to wear their visitor pass or there's some idiot running rampage with a gun. One day for Devin Andrews, instead of the fun drills where you got out of 10 minutes of class to hide under the desk and scroll through Instagram, waiting for the Principal to come over the loudspeaker telling teachers to get back to work... The real thing happens. No one is allowed in. No one is allowed out. No one is safe. We are all at his mercy. But what if his accomplice is innocent. And he risks his life to save yours. Now he's after you both. And he wants revenge. || HIGHEST RANK: #262 in Short Story || Started: 21 January 2018 Completed: 12 February 2018 *Includes mild language.
