Persephone is the Goddess of Spring, promised to The King of the Underworld.
Can she learn to survive in the land of the dead? Or will she join the dead herself?

- A modern take on the popular Greek Mythology tale.

EXCERPT: They walked along a thick strip of black carpet, trimmed with silver embroidery. A cathedral worthy window sat above the throne, shining like the sun.

But none of this mattered.
For the throne itself was the masterpiece of the room. It's backrest spanned right up to the base of the high standing window. It almost looked to be made of obsidian, carved into the souls like the river, with gems adorning the frightening structure.

The man that sat on it watched her approach with a piercing gaze. His eyes were the clearest of blues, like fire, yet impossibly cold. As with all gods he was breathtaking to behold, with a strong chiselled jaw with a mouth permanently set to frown. Deep set eyebrows to accentuate the soul piercing stare, set into pale skin, like snow.

Hair as black as night sat perfectly on his head. His black suit tailored inch for inch to his liking, she had no doubt at who she was being brought before.
His long slender fingers brushed over the light stubble on his chin. He wasn't built strong like her father, but she knew he could hold his own in battle.

Zeus stood by the throne, looking at Persephone and then to the man in the throne. As if checking for his thoughts on her arrival.
Persephone tried to infuse her stare with hatred, in opposition to his seeming disdain.

"Persephone," Zeus interrupted, breaking both of them with the authority in his voice, "Welcome to the Underworld."

The man on the throne abruptly stood up, his dark black eyes shining with an untammed flame, one that turned everything into embers. It was obvious that this powerful man did not like those who spoke back, espeically a small human girl like the one in front of him. The human girl felt the anger radiate off the man and started to run towards the entrance she came from, only to suddenly feel arms wrap around her waist, crushing her against a very solid chest. She opened her mouth to yell, but a strong hand covered her mouth. "You are a fiesty little girl." It was evident that the man was smirking in his voice; he was enjoying her fear. "Now, I do not want to punish you so early. So please, be the good girl that you are and be quiet. Not that screaming will do you any good; you are in the Underworld, after all." --- It had been five years after the death of her older sister before nineteen year old Katherine Bakers could even sleep peacefully at night. She had witnessed her own sisters murder, leaving scars beyond compare. She withdrew from her family and became a quiet recluse. But old nightmares come to life when she is knocked out and is taken by a stranger. Only this stranger is a god: Hades, God of the Underworld. Hades is a very dangerous man who rules the Underworld with an iron fist with no immorse for punishments of the wicked. He has a stone-cold heart that feels like ice, as no one has been able unthaw his frozen heart. And he is slowly losing time. A shattered human and the god of the dead; a new take of Persephone and Hades. "I asked him for it. For the blood, the rust, for the sin. I didn't want the pearls other girls talked about, or the fine marble of palaces, or even the roses in the mouth of servants. I wanted pomegranates-- I wanted darkness I want him. So I grabbed my king and ran away to the land of death, where I reigned, and people whispered that I'd been dragged. I'll tell you I've changed. I'll tell you, the red on my lips isn't wine. I hope you've heard of horns, but that isn't half of it. Out of an entire kingdom, he kneels only to me, calls me Queen, calls me Mercy. Mama, Mama, I hope you get this. Know the bed is warm and our hearts are cold, know never have I been better than when I am here. Do not send flowers, we'll throw in the river. 'Flowers are for the dead' --'least that's what the mortals say. I'll come back when he bores me, but Mama, not today." --Daniella Michallen, "Persephone Speaks." The kidnapping of Persephone retold in which Hades didn't kidnap Persephone, but she fell into the Underworld and became Hades' queen.
