When we were three, we got into a car crash. He nearly lost his life, and I nearly lost my only friend. Christopher and I have been inseparable since birth, although I was out of the womb a full eight minutes before his brunette head started to pop out. Our parents feared that being separated at any point would cause issues later on in life, like anxiety and such. As kids, we always did everything together and we didn't want it any other way.
The middle school age was an odd time for the two of us. He stopped drawing with me, and I stopped racing him. He would accompany me to the library every Tuesday night, then he invited the neighbor boy over to toss around a baseball. I liked read outside to keep an eye on him, but when it got too dark to continue, I would head inside, knowing he was right behind me.
Once we finally got to the age to be sophomores, our mother allowed us to attend a local public high school, instead of the home schooling we had known all our lives. Barry Clyde was a dirty building, filled with strange people. No one followed the rules, and most kids were failing one or two of their classes, yet the new surroundings intrigued me, and I needed to know more. Our first day at BC was the first day of the rest of our lives.
