Maddie sees her twenty fifth birthday as being the turning point in her life. She feels unloved and worthless, she made one mistake as a teenager and it's hung over her ever since. But she has a new job on the horizon, and this could be what she needs to kick start her plans, see her start to live at last.
With a spring in her step she looks to the future until she realises that all is not as it seems, and nothing is ever that easy.

Sometimes, I'm not always sure what to do. I feel like I'm always wrong, like I'm never good enough. I'm invisible and it's as if I don't exist. If I really didn't exist, I don't think anyone would care. I'm all alone in this great big world, I'm lost. Maddie has never been good enough for anyone. Her perfect sister, Megan, always manages to outshine her. Her father never pays attention to her, because he's always worried about Megan. The story is told from her point of view as she recalls all that has happened to her. Maybe telling her story will help her, maybe not. This isn't just any other sob story. This is more realistic. Her brothers love her, but due to their pathetic excuse for a father, their overprotective nature spirals into straight up helicopter parenting. Getting a fresh start by moving away from the bad memories, they're bound to run into a few new problems. One of which being their cocky, self-assured next door neighbor who isn't too discreet about taking an obvious liking towards Maddie. Her hope that he'd give up and leave her alone diminishes when his dorky personality starts to shine through, growing on her.
